bitten by the 'Bee' and the 'Bake Off' ....

Since my Uni days (that sounds like it was years ago...it was 4!) I've endeavoured to keep on the 'thrift and narrow' side of financial planning...sometimes it goes a little awry, mostly I good at it - well, the bailiffs having come a-knocking so far!!

I've always been able to bake a mean Victoria Sponge and I've somehow agreed for 6 friends to come to my house next weekend for a mini British Bake Off Competition... I'm not too sure how this is going to work...although I've got 2 ovens and 2 mixers, I only have 1 set of cake tins!! I have heard a rumour that my 6 friends are going to come over purely to 'judge' my cake....I'll need to clarify things !!!

I was going to start organising the house in readiness for my mini 'Great British Bake Off', but I've also been bitten by Great British Sewing Bee bug...(I feel like my dear ole Maternal Grandmother is currently 'channelling' all her domestic skills through me...and I'm hoping that she's not spinning in her grave at my results!!!)...so found myself playing with the sewing machine (which I bought about 30 odd years ago with one of my first Full Time job pay packets!!) and my new adjustable dressmaking dummies (which I ordered during the week and collected yesterday - an 8 part leg form by Adjustaform - and I LOVE it already!)...

I've completed a few dressmaking 'projects' over the last few years, but there's a pair of trousers I've been itching to have a go at, and I remember from years ago that its difficult to 'fit' trousers on your own.  This is my excuse for my purchase of a plastic me (I really must think of a suitable name for her..nothings springing to mind at the moment though) - and I've had a lot of fun this weekend trying to turn an old pair of jeans into a recycled/upcycled/deconstructed/reconstructed skirt.  I'm pleased with the results but have to sling it into the washing machine first and see how it survives that ordeal before wearing it out in public!!

shabby-chic-esque reconstructed jeans/skirt teamed with my gorgeous Karen Millen "40th birthday party shoes"

the back could do with some help - although its very comfy 'in the seat' !

made a little less 'revealing' at the front with some white cotton (with tiny polka dots) - bought 1 metre for £3 from the fabric lady at Canterbury Market - bargain, especially as I only used 1/2 of it :-)

If nothing else, it will make a very comfy pottering-round-the-house-at-the-weekend skirt and weirdly, I've got another pair of jeans that has completely worn though (in a most inconvenient place) that can have the same treatment ... once I've cleaned the kitchen and held the 'bake off' !!!!

Cocktails on the Patio

It's July, I've no money, so that must mean it's time for my annual 'Staycation'!!!  To be fair, this year we've...
